There is some debate whether "cleansing" crystals is the right term to use — some believe that instead of calling it "cleansing", it is more accurate to call it "retuning", because we are helping the crystals returning to their original vibrations (or what has been called a "charged" state) after the vibrations have gone out of tune / place.
Regardless of which term you prefer, be it "charged", "retune" or "cleanse", the purpose is to help our crystals return to a state where they can be our supportive companions for mindful living, to help us meditate, stay grounded, and so on. Today we look at five simple ways for that purpose, three of which will require no hefty purchases. I promise you can get started at once after reading this article!
Smudging
Smudging is one of the top ways to restore crystals to their original state, with a long history and lasting popularity. Light up your smudge stick of choice (ours is Palo Santo or a gorgeous floral smudge stick) and let the smoke waft around you, your space, and your crystals.

Moonlight
Bask your crystals in the moonlight overnight (preferably in contact with the earth, if you can). The moon's loving and nurturing energy will restore your beloved crystals. Doing so on full moon's night is exceptionally wonderful!
Brown Rice
Brown rice is not just good for you — it is good for your crystals too! Bury your crystal in a bowl of dry brown rice and leave for 24 hours. Dispose of the rice after cleansing as they have absorbed the negative energy.
Cleansing Crystals
Crystals such as clear quartz, selenite, and amethyst caves purify your crystal and restore them:) Grab some clear quartz tumbles and place them around your crystals!
Water (w a pinch of salt)
Add a pinch of salt to a bowl of water and submerge your crystals in the bowl for a few hours. Afterwards, rinse with clean water and dry. However, do note that soft / porous crystals such as kyanite, selenite, kunzite (and other crystals lower than 5 on the Mohs scale) cannot withstand prolonged exposure to water and therefore cannot be recharged with this method.
Bonus: Sound (using a Singing Bowl)
Singing bowls balance the aura and all chakras (the seven metals that they are made with correspond with the seven chakras), primarily through sound (and vibration too). Singing bowls restore the vibration of everything around them, including us and our crystals, when the cleansing sound reverberates through them.
My personal singing bowl is a full moon singing bowl (crafted during the Full Moon) and I just love using it to start and end my day!
Our crystals accompany us through difficult times, while bringing love and light to our space. Let us take care of them too!
With all our Love,
Ren
